Covast Introduces ODETTE File Transfer Protocol Adapter for IBM WebSphere Partner Gateway
OFTP Adapter to extend IBM WebSphere B2B capabilities for just-in-time supply chain environments

ATLANTA and ROTTERDAM, The Netherlands - September 21, 2005 - Covast, a leading provider of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) integration solutions for collaborative business environments, today announced the general availability of the Covast ODETTE File Transfer Protocol (OFTP) Adapter for IBM's WebSphere Partner Gateway. The Covast OFTP Adapter is designed to extend the B2B messaging capabilities of IBM's WebSphere Partner Gateway. Using Covast's technology, companies can integrate their trading partner community using the OFTP protocol into their IBM WebSphere integration solution.

The Covast OFTP Adapter, the most recent addition to the company's suite of IBM WebSphere integration products, complements the protocol support provided natively by WebSphere by adding seamless OFTP capability to the product. As a result, enterprises in automotive and retail which are required to use OFTP for business transactions are now able to use the IBM WebSphere platform.

By extending the platform's existing capabilities to support a wider breadth of B2B standards and protocols, Covast gives enterprises the tools to optimize the effectiveness of IBM WebSphere. When coupled with the Covast Map Accelerator, Covast helps enterprises quickly and easily migrate their existing B2B solutions to IBM WebSphere's single platform environment. This provides an end-to-end B2B integration solution to help companies fully realize the benefits inherent in IBM WebSphere, such as business activity monitoring (BAM) and business processes management (BPM).

The Covast OFTP Adapter is already being used by several large European automotive companies for mission critical applications. These deployments are delivering the following enterprise benefits:

  • IBM WebSphere now offers full support to enterprises using OFTP. Enterprises using OFTP can now use IBM WebSphere for comprehensive enterprise integration.
  • Integration benefits such as BAM and BPM are a reality. Enterprises can fully-achieve integration capabilities such as business activity monitoring (BAM) and business process management (BPM).
  • Enterprise-wide integration that includes OFTP messaging impacts the bottom line. Now that enterprises can fully integrate their A2A and B2B applications on a single platform, they can reduce operational costs, improve productivity and inventory control.

"Augmenting the list of protocols supported by WPG with Covast's OFTP offering will allow a new set of customers to consolidate their fragmented, multiple B2B gateway environment into a single unified B2B partner management solution," said Art Ambrose, IBM Worldwide Sales Executive, B2B.

The ODETTE File Transfer Protocol was defined by the European automotive industry in 1986 to extend the traditional file-transfer capabilities of FTP to support just-in-time operations. OFTP supports end-to-end acknowledgments, binding of EDIFACT messages and runs on top of X.25 or ISDN connections.
OFTP is now used by most major European automotive manufacturers and their suppliers. It is also used by the chemical industry, white goods manufacturers and is also being adopted by other sectors such as banking.

"If you are operating in a just-in-time environment, it is imperative that you maintain an integrated, precise view of your operations at all times. This means having the ability to send and receive business documents using a variety of protocols and standards. Covast's OFTP Adapter technology allows companies operating in the automotive industry to roll out WebSphere for their B2B communications now that it also supports the obligatory OFTP protocol" said Daan Scheer, CEO, Covast.
